The Chosen Charity
Over the last year, our family has been, one of millions of families, unfortunate enough to have our lives touched by Cancer.
We not only lost a friend, but we were shocked to have one of our parents diagnosed with Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Over the following 9 months, Maria Da Silva, our mother / mother-in-law and Grandmother fought bravely at the age of 78 to defeat this cruel disease.
She lost her battle on the Easter weekend last year.
Our family remains indebted to the all the nursing and care staff of Ward 2Y and Clinic 8 at Peterborough District Hospital, for all the care and support that they shared with every member of our family. This is the ward and the outpatient’s clinic that specifically deals with Cancer care and its treatment.
As a show of our appreciation for all the care and attention received we approached the then Matron of ward 2Y, Jayne Nimmo, to identify areas that they were in need of funds, and were shocked that one of the most essential pieces of equipment, is always in short supply, yet used in the treatment of every patient countless numbers of times is the Intravenous Pumps which costs £3000 per machine to purchase. These pumps are used in the administration of feeding the Chemo Therapy intravenously into the patients. Some of the current pumps are rather old and in desperate need of being replaced.
With this in mind we have set out to dedicate this evening to hopefully pay some recognition, to the often overlooked staff and nurses of 2Y and Clinic 8 and also, to raise sufficinet funds to aid in the purchase of as many of these machines as possible, so that with their help, many more patients are able to fight their battles and hopefully overcome Cancer.
